Officer Kris Cordell
Officer Cordell graduated from Medina Valley High School in Castroville, Texas, a small town 30 miles west of San Antonio. After graduating high school, he took an opportunity to work as a foreman for a family-owned business within the construction industry. During his five years in construction he attended The University of Texas at San Antonio part-time pursuing a degree in Business. While attending UTSA, Officer Cordell was introduced to a San Antonio Police Officer by his college roommate. After hearing the officer speak about his personal experiences, he became attracted to the excitement and opportunities within the profession. It was at this point he decided to look into what SAPD had to offer. Through his research, he found several benefits that appealed to him. Having not completed his degree, one particular benefit was college tuition reimbursement, by the City of San Antonio. Shortly thereafter, he submitted his application to apply for the position of police cadet. Officer Cordell completed the hiring process, started the San Antonio Police Department Training Academy in October 2007 and graduated in May 2008 as Top Cadet of his training academy class. He was assigned to the Southside Substation as a patrolman. After four years within the Patrol Division, Officer Cordell transferred into the Recruiting Detail.
“Becoming a member of the San Antonio Police Department was a challenge, but definitely worth it. The opportunities, flexibility, benefits and the family-oriented atmosphere of the department are great incentives, but being on patrol is one of the things I enjoy most, specifically the fast pace and variety of situations. Through different situations, I have experienced people at their worst times, but I have also experienced people at their best. This career has afforded me the opportunity to become involved in citizens’ lives and have a direct impact on the effect of every situation I have been a part of.”
